David always writes in a manner that you feel he is talking directly with you personally. It makes for enjoyable reading and easy to understand the messages he is giving to you. I love his style.
I have enjoyed this book so much. The methodical way the process of meditation is presented is well done and logical. This is the second book by David Michie I've read and both are five star books. I've made his books gifts to others as I like this author so much.
The author has experience with the practice of meditation, and does a fair job of explaining the fundamental mechanics; but aside from the how-to sections, the discussion is fairly superficial and relies heavily on anecdotes, personal experiences, and vague references to general research tends. Even if you are a very busy person, there are better introductions.
I really like David Michie's writings and I have a few of his books. He writes in 'small bites' that you can put into practice easily and he's good at explaining things through story/metaphor (which is helpful for me). I really like it and recommend it to anyone wanting to add a bit of inner peace and personal growth into their lives.
There are thousands of books on meditation, but I was led here by "The Dhali Lama's Cat," a being who touches me, teaches me. This is the single best book on meditation I've ever read, an has enabled me to step fully into a meditative practice after years of toe dipping.
At last, a book the takes the time to explain the mechanics/actual steps one takes to meditate. After years of frustrating attempts, I truly believed I was one of those people who simply could not attain a quiet mind. This book not only inspires one to try again, it provides tools to make one successful. I am so happy to have discovered this book.
I read this book at a particularly difficult time in my career and found it gave me great hope, patience, and got me back on the meditation chair (I'm too old for cushions any more), and I am very grateful to David Michie. He writes well, has a kind and sympathetic style and speaks from his heart.
