i think it's wonderful for what it is. old history. more on the development of NY. I think I was looking more for a bridge from history to today. but it is beautifully done. i'm also working with a kindergartener, so it's just above us still.

I'm not sure if this is marketed correctly. While the language and topics are, for the most part, kid-friendly, it's really dense in information. This is a great book for any school-aged child doing a report or needing to research New York, but man is it going to be tedious and boring for them. At least the activities seemed interesting.
My daughter teaches 2ND Graders in Brooklyn,NY.
and takes them on trips to many of these very places.

VERY INTERESTING history for my grandchildren ages 11&8....each read it to me,,,enjoyed by all participants,,,clear-concise super format to get kids involved in meaningful history////HIGHLY RECOMMEND
This is not what I expected. It is more of an activity book for a kid living in New York and is pretty dated and very history-heavy. I don't recommend it for a kid just traveling to New York.
